Before you purchase an RV, hire a RV Inspector.

Hey, it’s Josiah—co-founder of RV Help.
A few years ago, my wife and I bought a 20-year-old Class A diesel motorhome that, on paper, looked like a great deal. It was our third RV. We weren’t newbies. We even had a local mechanic check it out before buying.
He didn’t see anything major.
We went for it.A few months later, we spent over $7,000 on repairs and towing when our RV unexpectedly broke down on a trip, and that doesn't include the money we spent on "smaller" issues we encountered like, when our slide started falling out while we were driving down the highway due to a faulty slide locking mechanism.
When we finally went to sell it, a potential buyer hired a professional RV inspector. That was the first time we’d even heard that was a thing.
By then, we’d fixed most of the big stuff (including some extensive repairs to water damage we found while replacing the flooring). But the inspector still found a long list of smaller issues that scared off the buyer. And we realized something:
If we’d hired an inspector before buying, we would’ve saved ourselves thousands of dollars.
So here’s my advice:
If you’re thinking about buying an RV—new or used—get a third-party inspection.
Dealerships might offer a PDI (Pre-Delivery Inspection), but they work for the sale, not for you. A certified inspector from RV Help works for you. They’ll give you a detailed, unbiased report that tells you what you’re actually getting into.
RV Help Inspectors Check:
✅ The roof, seals, and exterior for leaks or weak spots
✅ Plumbing, tanks, and water systems
✅ HVAC, appliances, and electrical
✅ Tires, brakes, and chassis
✅ Slide-outs, awnings, and sealsRV inspections aren’t just for first-time buyers. They’re for anyone who’s been burned—or wants to avoid it.
Find a Certified RV Inspector before you buy.
Trust me on this one.

Quote from Brenda S. on 2025-06-18, 8:37 amThere is an RV Inspector on YouTube that we watch and he shows everything that he checks for. Unfortunately, even tho he drives it, he really doesn’t do much with the motor/engine if it is a motor home. We put on a new suspension on ours, well thought it was new, well it went a couple years ago. So even new things can go. Just be aware and do your maintenance and checks as often as you can. Be careful out there.

That email is about my husband and me. 🙂 My name is Ashley and my husband Josiah is one of the co-founders of RV Help, which lists NRVIA certified RV inspectors in every state. And I can tell you the email is true...we ended up losing close to $30k on that motorhome all in...we never would have bought it if we'd known about RV inspections at the time.

Quote from Richard R. on 2026-02-05, 7:05 pmAshley. Welcome to RV Friends. It was a pleasure meeting you at the Tampa RV Show last month. As we discussed, I have used your site and found two great Technicians. One serviced both my AC's and the other serviced my slideout and resealed the body of the RV. What I liked about the service it is quick and they come to you. Their rates are better than local RV Centers. I highly recommend your site be used by fellow RVer's.
As for here on RV Friends you will find friendly members who are willing to help and share their RV experiences and journeys. Feel free to reaching out for assistance. Looking forward to your participation here.
