Manufacturers should be doing better

Dealers will cut the circuit powering the LED backlights and terminate the wiring, free of charge. Owner notifications were made, and all affected trailers were repaired in September.

I hate to see this kind of thing..  there is a problem with an LED backlighting board overheating, and their "Solution" is to Remove the feature.   This diminishes the value of the item.. not fixing it.    They should not be able to get away with this kind of sloppy "fix".   The circuit board should be redesigned and replaced.

When RVer's let Manufactures and Dealers get away with this kind of lazy "repair" it reinforces their desire to do it that way.

Here is another of those instances Alan:

Jayco is recalling certain 2024 North Point and Pinnacle trailers equipped with certain GE Appliances air conditioners. The air conditioner soft-start device may fail and overheat.

The remedy is currently under development. As an interim measure, owners should have the ICM870-16A-BH5400 soft start removed from their air conditioner.

The “remedy” should be: fix the inadequately sized internal a/c wiring and replace the soft start with a new one, Or, is that just what I would do? Or hey, replace the whole a/c units with Coleman or Dometic that do not have any issues.

I just ran across a mention that less than 15% of RV Manufacturers are in compliance with Safety and Industry standards.  Ouch.

I have to wonder if there are any statistics on the % of recalls each has over x time period.   Craig P. ( @craig-kim ) is doing a great job of keeping us up to date on the recalls, but is the industry actually paying attention??

NO, they are not. As there is a lawsuit with Grand Design, instead of taking care of the frame that there has been multiple people with the same issue, and many going to the company to try and get them fixed under warranty, they chose not to. They were having customers pay to get fixed. I’m sorry, but if the manufacturer sees there is a common problem with their build, they should recall it and fix it, now they have a huge lawsuit. We watched a Youtuber, that had this issue, show us trying to get them manufacture to fix it, but no. They quit RVing, didn’t trust RV manufactures. At this point in life, as long as many of these manufacturers have been in business, and for many, do mainly the same build, yet they rather get the money then care how they put peoples lives in danger. I told my husband, we would never get another one. I can guess there are more things that should be recalled, but people just take care of it so not to deal with the manufacturers.

This is one of the may reasons I'm building my own RV (conversion from a shuttle bus).. I don't trust the manufactures, there doesn't seem to be any real accountability, and what they build is frankly an engineering nightmare a lot of the time.   Sure, not everyone has the skills to build their own or have the time to do it slowly and right the first time..   But manufactures just trying to crank out units as fast as possible with the most profit margins.. just not good for quality.

Alan, totally understand why you would. We thought about doing a small one for shorter trips , but decided not to at this time as being full timers, I don’t like to leave my stuff somewhere where I am not. Can’t wait to see what you have done. Will also send you more things for Amazon in a bit, getting ready to head to the East Coast as soon as we get our new truck tires.
