Recalls

Quote from Brenda S. on 2025-02-01, 11:54 amRichard made a point there should be better quality control when making RV’s . When we went to speak to Heartland and got to tour their newer version of toy hauler similar to ours, we learned that they do not check every single one, they randomly do so and we also let them know that one that had been checked, failed. We learned a lot by going to these.
You would think that after so many years of manufacturing these, they would be less recalls. Yet we know that workers come and go and many , it’s all about cheaper materials. They are in such a hurry to get product out that they chose to cut corners. Then we see how the rates of them are coming out due to need.
Well, as Full Timers, we see many on the dealerships parking lots. We tend, once in a while to check to see what they have to offer, not really looking for a new one. Wouldn’t believe how many are a few years old. What do they do with the older ones they don’t sell? Why do they have so many recalls still.
Certain manufacturers seem to have recalls every time they are put on the list. Do you go by that when you were looking or are looking. We refused to even look at a certain manufacturer for the many recalls the company had. So how do you handle this? Have you ever had recall work done? We have had only one thing, it was our microwave, it wasn’t even for the RV itself.

Quote from Richard R. on 2025-02-01, 12:38 pmI recently had a recall from Forest River for the brackets of the LP tank that were not welded correctly. They replaced the brackets and properly welded it to the frame. What amazed me that it took them 4 years to figure this out. Thank God the brackets didn't break during the 4 years I was traveling in it. I now advise anyone looking to purchase a RV new/used to get a certified inspector to perform a full inspection of the Rig.

Quote from Brenda S. on 2025-02-03, 1:26 pmHate to say, even something like that could be overlooked by an inspector. I take it the recalls are due to many people complaining, as if they “didn’t know” they wouldn’t fix it. When our microwave in our first rig was recalled, the recall stated we had to take our entire rig to CW to change out our microwave. We called the nearest CW and talked to a service person and he told us if we could take it out, he would have one ready for us, which we did and he replaced it with a new one straight from the box. Still have it, tho we don’t use it, rig in is storage. That wasn’t even part of the rig really and they were on it. Like I stated before, depends on what manufacturer and dealer, you’re dealing with.
