I cannot recommend this enough. It is an experience not to be missed.
And the FOOD... Oh My...If you have an RV, check with them to see if you can drive up the mountain, not all will fit the winding road. They do have parking at the gate and a shuttle up the mountain. Staying overnight in the Hotel is the best experience, but they do have Day Passes (all by reservation.) Do yourself a favor and stay in the OLD section rooms. They have fireplaces and more character and charm than you can imagine.Founded by the Smiley Family in 1869, and still owned and operated by them, the Victorian castle resort is nestled in the Hudson Valley, only 90 miles north of New York City. Surrounded by 40,000 acres of pristine forest, the National Historic Landmark resort offers inclusive pricing with farm-to-table cuisine and countless activities as a part of the rate. Do be sure to visit their site at the link, and check into it's extensive history. We used to give a week long seminar here for years, and have been there through all the seasons. None are to be missed. But, If you go in the Winter, be sure to ask if the walking trails are safe at the desk. Even then walk carefully as winter conditions change fast on the mountain. I have a story about that.Fun Fact: The Road to Wellville (Anthony Hopkins, Matthew Broderick) was filmed here, but because of the movies content (nudity, suggestive content and a lot more..) the Smiley Family (Quakers) asked for Mohonk Mountain House to NOT be in the credits. The Lake Lounge where High Tea is served each day was shown as the entrance to the hotel in the movie, even though it is not.[added to Map]

I have not been back there since I moved to Washington, but they used to run a short shuttle bus or van from the base of the mountain parking lot for visitors or those who "cannot fit".
Fun thing I wish they still did, the patrons were taken by Horse and Carriage in the olden days.. what a fun right that would have been.
