Camera Systems

Mirrors don't cover all the bases all the time.  Especially on my rig.

So my cameras are a bit involved, and have a LOT of them since I am a Solo traveler.   I deal with tucking in on a SMALL 20 car ferry with narrow lanes.   Campsites are easy compared.

So I have:

      • 1 forward main road view,
      • 1 main rear road view,
      • 2 high mounted showing the sides of the rig from the front,
      • 2 Low mounted showing the sides of the rig (needed for the ferry),
      • 1 front grill (again a ferry issue, to see the other persons rear bumper, we have to be 8" away maximum - talk about tight),
      • 1 rear bumper,
      • 2 side view at the back for seeing who is coming from each way as I back on to a road (we have Narrow roads here with limited site lines).
      • 4 additional security cameras.

To run all of the cameras, I have an Eight channel HD MDVR which records all of them at the same time.  It sends selected video to a monitor in the cab for when I am moving, and another monitor in the lounge/bedroom for parking.   It also sends the video out to me remotely.

But for those math inclined, yes, I have more cameras than channels.   So I designed and built a custom camera switcher that selects which is in use for the current situation.   I'll add a diagram to show more of what I have later on.

Mine are a LOT for security, and also for maneuvering the bus by myself.

I just had to pull up recordings today to double check that a package was NOT delivered to my front porch as claimed.   While the bus is parked on the property, it keeps an eye on the entire area.   I hate Sunday USPS delivery as it's done by some random Postal worker, and they just get it wrong a lot of the times.

Mon-Sat our delivery is done by a Postal worker who lives on island.   Same for UPS deliveries ... he lives on Island as well.

I hate using the postal, but sometimes that’s all I have around. Yes, know about the camera for packages coming. We had 4, two on each side of rig, then bought two more for front and back.  Looking to find a camera for the truck dash to have for traveling, but nothing that uses WiFi or something else I may need to hook up, besides my phone.

Hope your get your packages.

I subscribe to RVgeeks and they had this article of interest.  They actually mentioned one of the Dashcam units I'm considering for my car (3  camera setup).

Postal service here on the Island is GREAT generally (except for the occasional Sunday delivery issue).   We have our own Post Office and it's like the old days where the Postmistress and delivery driver knows everyone by name. Reminds me of Lark Rise To Candleford - BBC One where Postmistress Dorcas Lane was a central figure.

So far the package has not shown up..   I'm afraid it might have been dropped at a seasonal use home here.. in which case it's basically lost.   I'll give it another day before I start the battle with Amazon/Postal Service to get my money back... sigh..

I’ll have to look the cameras up. I have a lot of RV sites I go to and keep up with. If you ordered it from Amazon, did you additional instructions? I do that. Not sure if it goes through the post office , if they still take a picture. Post office was supposed to have delivered to my son today, but still sitting at the distribution center last I checked. Hope you get your package.

Did you see Apple has come out with some applications for the disabled.? There are some for IPhones, will send that to you later.

No I did not do additional instructions.  But I suspect I will in the future.. unfortunately I don't always know it is going  to be a Sunday delivery.   Nobody out here takes a picture..  we are not a high risk area, just occasional incorrect delivery on Sunday.

But 100% bad service from FedEx, they are horrible, always the wrong date, and often the wrong house.  I had one of their drivers stop and ask me where an address was - MINE, as I was standing next to the huge mailbox I have with 4" tall numbers and an Arrow pointing to my house.  I held my composure, but it was hard.

You’re good, I would have jumped him.  Yes, we have found FedEx is worse then many, postal is as bad if not worse.  If you have FedEx, you can try and track them, but many times they are so behind, they will send you tracking, and you wont get anything for two days, then states out for delivery and you still get nothing, As for Sunday delivery, many don’t deliver on Sundays, even if it states it will be delivered then. People just can’t do their job or no one wants to work.
